Labradorite: The Magic Behind the Flash

Labradorite: The Magic Behind the Flash

If you've ever held a piece of labradorite up to the light and watched it shift from deep grey to electric blue and green, you already understand why this stone is one of our favorites at Studio MS Indie Jewelry.

That optical phenomenon — called labradorescence — happens when light reflects between microscopic layers inside the stone. No two pieces flash the same way. It's one of the reasons labradorite is such a natural fit for one-of-a-kind jewelry.

What Makes Labradorite Special

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral found primarily in Canada, Madagascar, and Finland. The stones we work with are hand-selected for their flash — we're looking for that signature blue-green shift that catches the eye with every movement. Each stone is hand cut.

In our studio, labradorite is wire-wrapped by hand in 14k gold fill or sterling silver, which lets the stone remain the focal point while the metalwork adds structure and wearability.

How to Wear It

Labradorite pairs beautifully with neutral tones — cream, camel, black — because the stone provides all the color you need. It's equally at home dressed up or worn casually, which is why our labradorite earrings tend to be everyday favorites.
